I created the Yoga in Schools Programme in 2016 so that every child at Galway Educate Together NS could experience yoga in a supportive, inclusive, and non-competitive way. The children genuinely enjoy the sessions and often describe them as a welcome break from the usual classroom routine.
The programme blends movement, breathwork, mindfulness, and relaxation to support both physical and emotional wellbeing. Small-group classes help children feel at ease, allow for individual attention, and foster a calm, focused environment where they can stay present and build confidence.
Due to its continued success, the programme now runs annually and aligns with the Department of Education’s Wellbeing Framework and its current guidelines for Yoga in Schools.
The programme supports many SPHE objectives, along with elements of PE, English, Maths, SESE, Drama, Art, and the Ethical Education Curriculum. For children with additional needs, an individualised Yoga Therapy strand provides a structured, therapeutic approach for both the child and the supporting adult.
My Approach
